How To Safely Remove The Cream Charger Cracker And Clean Cream Dispensers

At Kiwi Catering Supplies, we are a top supplier of cream charger crackers, cream dispensers and cream chargers. Whipped cream is a delightful addition to hot or cold drinks, delicious desserts or even a luxurious topping for fresh strawberries. Whipping cream by hand can be an arduous task, which is why so many people choose to use cream dispensers.

Cream Dispenses & Chargers 101

A cream dispenser is a kitchen tool, usually made from stainless steel or aluminium, with parts that fit together to produce freshly whipped cream with ease. Ingredients including cream, sugar, vanilla or other flavourings and more are loaded into a metal canister. This canister usually has additional parts that work together in the whipping process and can typically take different sized tips to produce a variety of whipped designs.

A key component to whipped cream dispensers is the cream charger. These cartridges, typically steel, contain the whipping agent nitrous oxide gas. The gas is what aerates the liquids contained by the canister. The aerated cream is then directed through the nozzle tip as a smooth, whipped topping.

Cleaning Care

As with any kind of kitchen tool, it’s important to keep all the parts of a whipped cream dispenser clean and sanitised. To properly clean the canister, it must be disassembled. For safety as well as ease, the canister must be emptied in order to release the pressure that will have built up as a result of the nitrous oxide gas. This pressure can make the canister almost impossible to open. Empty the canister by holding down the lever and allowing all of the cream to empty as well as any gas.

If it’s too difficult to push that lever down, soaking the canister in some hot water can help make it much easier to empty and depressurise. The warmth from the water helps reactivate any remaining gas, making it easier to release the remaining contents and pressure.

Once depressurised, the canister can be taken apart piece by piece. Each piece should be cleaned separately with warm, soapy water before being thoroughly rinsed and allowed to dry completely. Most whipped cream dispensers are dishwasher safe, but each piece should still be separated before placing in the dishwasher. Be sure to double-check that your specific dispenser is dishwasher safe.
